Gallery Opening: Lost and Found by Kirkland Smith
5:30 pm – 7:00 pm Arts Center of Kershaw County: Bassett Gallery
(Free Event)
Kirkland Smith is a classical painter who began creating assemblages of post-consumer waster
almost by accident. She was looking for way to highlight the problem of consumerism in an
environmental landscape contest. A native of SC, Kirkland grew up Mt. Pleasant and received her
B.A. in Studio Art at USC and studied classical painting and drawing at Studio Escalier in France.
Now a resident of Columbia, SC, she is known for her vibrant and emotive work that often
explores themes of identity and culture. She uses a variety of mediums to create pieces that
resonate deeply with viewers, reflecting both personal experiences and broader social narratives.
Her unique style and thoughtful approach have made her a prominent figure in the local art scene.
